My mom abandoned us when I was five, and I grew up watching my dad work four jobs just to keep us going. At 17, I called him a “loser” for being exhausted and still struggling financially, then chose my wealthy mom and left him behind. Ten weeks later, I returned home and discovered that Dad had been in a terrible car crash, sold everything to pay for his surgeries, and was barely surviving. I begged my mom for help, but she coldly told me that if I chose Dad, I shouldn’t come back. That was the moment I realized who had truly loved me all along. I stayed beside Dad, sleeping on the hospital floor and begging him to forgive me. He simply smiled and said, “I always knew you’d come back. I know the kid I raised.” Days later, he began recovering, and I finally understood that Dad never gave up on me—even when I gave up on him.
