How to Keep Your Pipes From Freezing This Winter

Insulate exposed pipes, seal drafts, disconnect garden hoses, and cover outdoor faucets before freezing weather arrives. Keep your thermostat at 55°F (13°C) or higher, open cabinet doors, and let vulnerable faucets drip during severe cold. If a pipe freezes, keep the faucet open and thaw it gently with warm towels or a hair dryer—never use an open flame. If a pipe bursts, shut off the main water supply immediately and call a plumber to prevent costly damage.
